Prominent Nigerian musician Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage as Tems, has opened up about her romantic history, declaring that she has never been in a relationship.
The singer, 28, recently opened up about her feelings on an episode of Flow With Korty. Tems disapproved of the adage that “love is blind.”
She believes that love is a conscious choice made after careful consideration rather than a feeling experienced without thought.
“I haven’t been in love,”
She explained, “For me, loving someone means saying, ‘I see you and I still want to be in your life.”Even if you irritate me at times, I will always choose you. I’d like to be in love, to have a deep yet genuine experience rather than being blind. I do not believe that love is blind; I believe that if you truly love someone, you love them with your eyes open.”
She continued by saying that many people confuse infatuation with love.
Tems describes true love as wanting to be with someone while acknowledging and accepting their flaws.
“If you’re blind, that is not love,” she added. “Love is when you’ve seen the person, their flaws are visible, and you’re like, ‘I still want it. I still want that.’ I want someone to see my imperfections and still desire to be with me.”
