Following her recognition in the 2024 BET nominations list, Nigerian rising star Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, better known by her stage as Ayra Starr, has had an incredibly successful year in her music career.
Beyond her peers in Nigeria, the gifted Sabi Girl singer has been nominated for three awards: Best New Artist, Best African Act, and Best HER for her song “Comma.”
In addition, Tems was nominated for Best Video Director and Best Gospel/Inspiring Song for “Me & U.” Burna Boy was nominated twice for Best R&B/Pop Act and Best Hip Hop Act.
Davido and Lojay’s collaboration on Chris Brown’s “Sensational” earned them a nomination for the Viewers Choice Award.
Seyi Vibez was nominated for Viewers’ Choice Best International New Act, while Asake was nominated for Best International Act.
With seven nominations, American rapper Drake led the field globally, closely followed by Nicki Minaj with six.
Victoria Monét, J. Cole, Sexyy Red, and SZA were each nominated five times. Usher, Tyla, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Beyoncé, and 21 Savage each have four.
Best male R&B/pop artist and best male hip-hop artist are the two categories in which Drake and Burna Boy are nominated for BET Awards.
On Sunday, June 30, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, BET will broadcast live from Los Angeles the 2024 BET Awards, dubbed Culture’s Biggest Night.
The topic for this year is “Stand on Culture.”
