Joeboy: Wizkid’s statement regarding Afrobeats is misinterpreted.

Joeboy, an Afropop performer, feels that Ayodeji “Wizkid” Balogun’s recent remarks regarding Afrobeats were misinterpreted.

Recently, Wizkid declared in the open that he does not want to be recognized or classified as an Afrobeats artist.

On Friday, March 15th, the Starboy Entertainment founder revealed that his new album was finished and ready for release.

In honor of his late mother, Morayo, Wizkid asked fans not to expect an old version or an Afrobeats sound on his future album.

He urged fans who are eager to hear the old Wizkid to avoid downloading his new album and remove him from their playlist in a series of online tirades.

Additionally, when his album Morayo is finally released, Machala, as he is affectionately called, has instructed bloggers and other media sources not to post or report on it.

Wiz had written; “Album done! See you soon b*tches! And abeg if you like Pakurumo Wizkid, don’t download this new album. In fact, delete me from your playlist and your life!

“If you like Afrobeats, don’t download my album. I’m not a f*cking Afrobeats artiste. I am not Afro anything.”

Joeboy claimed in an episode of Tacha’s Big Friday Day Show on Cool FM that Wizkid was misinterpreted. Contrary to common belief, he declared, the ‘Joro’ crooner was not leaving Afrobeats; rather, he wished to avoid being restricted by the genre.

He said; “Wizkid’s statement is being misunderstood, he is not running away from Afrobeats. All we are saying is our identity is Afrobeats but please don’t box us because we can make other genres of music too.”
