Narrative
When 19-year-old Irena Gut learns that the Jewish ghetto in Poland is going to be destroyed, she is elevated to the position of maid in the home of a highly esteemed Nazi officer.
She chooses to take the twelve Jewish laborers into the safest location she can think of—the German Major’s basement—because she is determined to help them.
Irena uses her wit, humor, and unwavering bravery to hide her pals for as long as she can during the course of the following eight months.
