Rod Wave, an American rapper, was taken into custody on suspicion of having a gun.

He was arrested on Wednesday in Manatee County, Florida, according to official arrest documents.

In a press conference following the arrest, the St. Petersburg Police Department asserted that Rod Wave was connected to a Florida shooting involving gang activity.Four bystanders were hurt in an incident that happened outside the Sonic Sports Bar in St. Petersburg.

Three of the suspects, named as Christopher Atkins, Keith Westby, and Kevontre Wesby, were captured on Sunday, March 31. According to St. Petersburg Police Chief Mike Kovacsev, these individuals are purported members of the “Young Gangsters” gang. Two other people are also being held awaiting arrest at this time.

On the other hand, Rod Wave’s attorneys, Bradford Cohen and Mark Rankin, contend that the rapper was wrongfully taken into custody and arrested without any proof of misconduct.

The rapper’s lawyers made it clear in an official statement shared on Instagram that he did not have a gun when he was arrested.

In related news, six people have been detained in connection with the death of South African musician AKA.

Recall that in February 2023, outside of a café in the seaside city of Durban, the musician, whose true name is Kiernan Forbes, 33, and his buddy were shot and killed. While making their way to their car, AKA and his best friend Tebello “Tibz” Motshoane were shot and killed by two armed men at close range.

However, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the provincial police commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, announced during a news conference on Tuesday night that the accused will appear in court on Thursday.

Lieutenant-general Mkhwanazi disclosed how the perpetrators were caught and their roles in the rapper’s demise in a widely shared video.
